MI - Embedding Skills & Learning

Already completed your MI training? This half-day session is your opportunity to revisit core skills, deepen your practice, and bring MI to life in your everyday work with families. Through guided reflection, peer discussion, and scenario-based exercises, you'll explore what's working, tackle real challenges from your caseload, and sharpen the techniques, from reflective listening to eliciting change talk.

Description

MI is a skill that grows with practice and like any skill, it benefits from regular reflection and renewal. This half-day session is designed for those who have completed the full 2-day MI course and are using MI in their work with families.

The session creates a supportive space to step back from the day-to-day and focus on your development. You'll have the chance to share what's going well, explore the situations where MI feels harder to apply, and work through real challenges with your peers and a skilled facilitator.

There's no expectation of perfection, MI is a practice, not a destination. This session is about honest reflection, practical problem-solving, and continued momentum in your use of MI with families.

By the end of this session, you will:

  • Have refreshed your MI knowledge and reconnected with the core skills you developed in your full training
  • Feel more confident applying MI techniques in the real-life situations you face with families
  • Have explored common challenges and barriers to using MI in practice — and how to work through them
  • Have had space to reflect on your own experiences and share learning with colleagues
  • Have practised responding to difficult or stuck conversations using an MI approach
  • Leave with renewed confidence and clear ideas for how to keep building your MI practice going forward
